Chill with a Cop
A project of our Clean & Safe Committee, Chill with a Cop is an agenda-free and welcoming event designed to strengthen relationships between residents and public safety professionals over a delicious scoop of ice cream. Chill with a Cop creates opportunities for the community to gather and come together in Downtown Richmond, access crime prevention tools and resources, play chess, take home free books, and more.
*COVID19 Update*
Due to the COVID19 pandemic and in order to ensure the health and safety of everyone who participates in our Celebrate Downtown events — guests, residents, visitors, performers, vendors, businesses, volunteers, and staff — we have made the difficult decision to cancel forego all in-person summer events for the 2022 season.
We are exploring a virtual or hybrid Chill with a Cop for August 2022.
6th annual Chill with a Cop was Super Cool
On Saturday, August 17, 2019, we activated the MetroWalk/Richmond Station Plaza with our 6th annual Chill with a Cop “no agenda” ice cream social. This year we did things just a little bit different: with the guidance and support of our Clean & Safe Committee we hosted the event at a new location, offered dairy-free options, invited BART PD to join, and worked with community partners to create a resource fair. The no pressure atmosphere and selection of delicious Lappert’s ice cream remained the same, bringing out 200 residents and community members for an afternoon of fun in the sun, chill conversations with public safety officers, chess games, music, and more.
We had a great time and are so grateful for the support of all our partners and volunteers, and especially Lappert’s Ice Cream for their generous donation of delicious ice cream!
