Last Friday we facilitated the final convening of our Youth Committee. With support from the ECIA, we launched the Youth Committee in February, recruiting 15 members from the community. Members are a diverse group of high school students and young adults, who’ve dedicated their time, efforts, and expertise to work on a variety of projects over the summer, including designing, promoting, and then staffing our annual Healthy Village Festival and Spirit & Soul Festival events…and they did a fantastic job!
At Friday’s meeting the committee put final touches on the structure and focus of our upcoming Youth Entrepreneur Day event on November 17. In addition to recruiting participants for the free and fun event, the committee members will also serve as team leads for the working groups, where they will put their leadership skills and Downtown expertise to work. To get ready for the task, the committee—joined by Main Street staff—visited various Downtown locations, taking a close look at its assets and opportunities…and dreaming BIG for the future of Downtown.
These young people are incredible and truly the future leaders of the Richmond community. We cannot wait to see what they envision at Youth Entrepreneur Day and beyond. Please join us in supporting Youth Entrepreneur Day: share this incredible one-day learning and network-building opportunity with young folks in your life.
